Bass Coast College runs a Select Entrance Literacy Program (SELP) for students going into Year 7.  The Literacy Program seeks to improve the literacy of students who have been identified by their Grade 6 teacher as having skills and understanding well below the state standard.  Students in this program have access to two English teachers in the classroom, which is kept to a maximum of sixteen students.  They do not undertake a second language, and will work on a modified curriculum that is designed to support each individual students.

The selection process involves students being nominated by their Grade 6 teacher.  Early in Term 4, students will undertake literacy testing with a member of the Bass Coast College Literacy team at their primary school.  Alongside the teacher nomination form, this 1:1 testing will determine the student’s suitability for inclusion in the program.
